    Autocolor a cell (xls 97)

I am looking for a way to background auto color a cell. Each cell has a unique ID# that may cover 1,2,3 etc. columns. I want excel to randomly generate a background color for each ID value. Is this even possible in excel??? thank you in advance.

    For starters:

    Dim i As Integer
    For i = 1 To 10
    Cells(i, 1).Interior.ColorIndex = i
    Next
