    .pst not compatible (2002)

Repeated problem with standalone Outlook on XP. Outlook will not start with error message attached. After error pst file has grown from 78 mb to over 480 mb in 1 day. Scanpst.exe run to no effect. Repair Outlook has no effect. Re-install no effect. Only help is to use backed up pst file to replace defective file. Problem re-occurs after a few days of daily use.

Do you have any other software that interacts with your PST? Does it help to run the Inbox Repair Tool ScanPST.exe?

    Re: .pst not compatible (2002)

I ran scanpst.exe, no change. My AVG scans incoming mail, but there is no other interacting software. And no new software on this computer for at least 1 month. What software would interact with .pst file?

    Re: .pst not compatible (2002)

I have run no other versions of Outlook. I have not tried to import mail from another version. When the error occurs other files are created in the Outlook folder. They are small with irregular names I didn't think to save the names of the extra files. Also an archive file will have been created, but not by me. I have archiving set to run only manually. There is no unusual activity on the computer which is protected by AVG, firewall.

With Outlook not running move your PST file to a different folder and rename it (leave the extension pst). Start Outlook and it should create a new PST for you. Then you can try to import the old pst or open it as an Outlook data file. Also, check out the links to repair utilities at Live Search: repair pst file. Unfortunately, these files are most not free.
