    d/l ZoneAlarm Security Suite

    Dear Sirs,
I currently have ZAPro. I decided to upgrade to the ZoneAlarm Security Suite. I did that successfully and downloaded to my Desktop, a file entitled "ZAsuitesetup_en.exe". Then, I double-clicked the file and it told me it was downloading the file. Well, it had downloaded the supposed program within about 1 second to my desktop, so I presumed that they had only downloaded some file that would download the actual program. OK. Well, about 15 minutes into the download, it aborted and gave me a message that said, "Installation failed. Downloaded file is not ZoneAlarm installation. and gave the URL". I tried reaching ZA support - customer service and technical support - no luck. All that comes up is a "Virtual Support" that gave me all these possibilities that had nothing to do with my problem. I couldn't manage to contact anybody that could help me.
I am beginning to wonder if I should have elected to get the ZA Suite. I even tried contacting sales - but that was only for corporate clients. So what do I do now?
I have no antivirus at the time, because I had a problem with my Kaspersky AntiVirus while I was upgrading to a more recent version. This is pretty scary - having to stay on the Internet without an antivirus.
Do you have any ideas how to get ZA Security Suite downloaded? There are no installation instructions. Maybe I have to uninstall my ZAPro first? Is there a secret way to get ZoneAlarm support to tell me how to install the product?
I am having some real difficulties with my brain today, and maybe I am not recognizing what words to use in the Virtual Support - I just don't know.
This is pretty scary for me - I'm one of those 'paranoid' types!
    Help, please!
    Thank you,
    Julia Henson

Try this link http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/104..._408_000_en.exe. Since it is a 39 MB download I think it is the full product.

    Re: d/l ZoneAlarm Security Suite

    Thank you, Joe
I followed the link and downloaded the program. Then double-clicked to install. I selected the "upgrade", because nothing had told me to uninstall the ZA Pro Firewall I already had. About 60% through the install, the screen went blank after momentarily opening a small window with the cursor sitting on "Cancel". I had to manually turn off the computer. When I turned the computer back on, the "Configuration Wizard" came up. I don't remember what happened then, but I could see that I didn't have the Security Suite, I still had ZA Pro - the Firewall. So, I thought that maybe I should have uninstalled that before installing the Security Suite. But when I went to the "Add/Remove software", it says I only have the Security Suite - I no longer have ZA Pro. But the ZA window says ZA Pro, not the Security Suite, and that registration is pending.
I tried using what they call 'support' - with no results again. It just tells me that my software saying that "registration is pending" doesn't affect the utility of the program. But that doesn't answer my need to have an AV on my machine. It's clear that there is no place to configure any AV - it's still just a firewall.
It looks to me like I should have never gotten involved with ZA - they have no support that works for me, it seems. I'm sitting in Costa Rica right now, so I can't just call the 800 number and talk to someone. It's also not as simple as dialing and putting in the country code from Costa Rica.
I'm thinking I should uninstall everything to do with ZA. I copied the .exe file to a CD, just in case.
Does that sound like a good idea?
    Thank you for being there,

ZA support shares the same shoddy reputation as many other vendors. You probably should've uninstalled ZA Pro just to be safe. Can you uninstall the ZA suite? If so, does it restore ZA Pro? I use neither so I'm not going to be much more help. Perhaps someone with the suite can help

    Re: d/l ZoneAlarm Security Suite

    Hi, Joe,
The support options for ZA are pretty awful, aren't they?
I received a message that might help me, but I don't know which area of the Lounge to post the question. The message says that "Setup is unable to log into the TrueVector service... Please use the service manager to shut down the TrueVector service and then restart the installer program"
I looked in my Windows book and did a search from "Help and Support" - nothing on "TrueVector" or "Service Manager".
Do you have any idea where I could post a question?

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I lost the ability to get on the Internet - what a scare! And because of many problems, I no longer had any AntiVirus or the ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall. But, as you can see, I'm back again!
    Thank you.

    Julia,
True Vector is the main security engine for Zone Alarm. So when they advise shutting down True Vector, you can just right click on the ZA icon, lower right of taskbar and click "shut down Zone Alarm".
With ZA disabled you can then try to reinstall the program and reboot to restart things again.

    Re: d/l ZoneAlarm Security Suite

    Thanks, Bob,
I had already uninstalled the ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall that I had, and had then attempted to install the ZA Internet Security, which is when I got the TrueVector message. I lost the ability to tie onto the Internet, and the downloaded .exe file of ZA Internet Security Suite disappeared from my desktop. I did happen to have backed it up on a CD, however. I managed to get back my Internet access by activating the Kaspersky Internet Security - although I have no idea why that would have been so. I have been having so many computer problems that I cannot even explain them all.
Anyway - do you think I should try using the backed-up ZA Internet Security, or maybe download it again from the link given me in this thread - just in case something is wrong with the .exe file? Alternatively, I still have the update to my ZAPro Firewall on my Desktop. I also have a ZA backup disk from ZA, although there have been many updates since that particular version. Perhaps it would be better to re-install from the original backup disk, then update from the .exe file on my desktop and then try to replace with the ZA Internet Security?
As you can see, I'm pretty confused over here!
    Thank you,
    Julia Henson

    Re: d/l ZoneAlarm Security Suite

I would probably opt to download a fresh copy.
Then make sure that ALL traces of the old program are deleted from the Hard Drive.

I might even go so far as to go into regedit and search for any references of the old program and delete any found. ( some might say this is not necessary but......? )

Then go for a fresh install of the program from the DL copy.

    Re: d/l ZoneAlarm Security Suite

    Thank you, Bob,
Sorry to take so long - my brain is having some difficulties maintaing with all this. Anyway, let's see...
I had already done a 'search' for any file containing "zl", including hidden files and deleted everything. In addition, I have NTREGOPT and PCOptimize, both of which I ran. Would that be sufficient? I am not too comfortable with trying to edit the register, but I'll do it if you say I must - can you give me some pointers, maybe, on where to look for the entries, or? I also have ERUNT make a copy of the register every day automatically - I presume that would be sufficient to fall back on? And would I really know how to do what is needed even if I did go in to reinstate?
    What do you think?

    Re: d/l ZoneAlarm Security Suite

If you go to Start>Run> type regedit. It will start Registry Edit.
At the top drop down menu, Edit>Find.
In the "find What:" box type in Zone Alarm and click Find next.
It will start running through all the entries. When it finds a mention of Zone Alarm, it will stop there. Hit the DEL key, it will ask to verify the delete and you click OK.
Click Find Next and it will continue on down through the rest of the reg, stopping at every mention of ZA.
When it's done go back up to the top of the tree and do the same thing for: Zone Labs and True Vector.
Your reg should be clean of Zone Alarm at this point.
If you somehow mess things up, your back up copy of the reg can be restored.

Then after looking for any files remaining in WIndows Explorer folders and deleting any found, you should be able to reinstall things.

Having a devil of a time with the new update for ZA free myself. Uninstalled it through Windows Control panel. Now I cant install new version and can't completely uninstall old one. TrueVector keeps running and gumming up everything. ZA support is non-existent and their forum is pretty lame. I'm going to install Comodo when I get home today.

    Re: d/l ZoneAlarm Security Suite

    Hi Viking,
Thanks for the reply. Here's an excerpt from the ZoneAlarm forum that worked for me:

"If the Simple Upgrade procedures don't work, then You can always do the Full /Clean Uninstal process..
start in SAFE MODE and do the following:
Go to Start > Search > Files and Folders. Make sure the location box is set to search your Local Hard Drive (usually C: ) or All Local Drives. Also make
sure the Advanced Search Options are set to search subfolders and hidden files. Now copy the entire line below, paste it into the search box and click Search Now.

    Zonelabs; "zone labs"; "Internet logs"; vsconfig.xml; vsdata.dll; vsdata95.vxd; vsdatant.sys; vsmon.*; vsmonapi.dll; vsnetutils.dll;vspubapi.dll; zaplus.*; zapro.*; zllictbl.dat; zlparser.dll; zonealarm.exe; zoneband.dll; vsutil.dll; zlclient.*

A list of files and folders belonging to ZoneAlarm will appear in the Search Results panel.
Now proceed by deleting all ZoneLabs files and folders that were found.

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

Run a registry/system cleaner. ccleaner is quite good utility (www.ccleaner.com)."

Search found somewhere in the neighborhood of 37 files and folders that the uninstall did not toke out. I deleted them all and True vector and vsmon are no longer a problem. I downloaded and installed Comodo. Had enough of ZA's nonsence.

    Re: d/l ZoneAlarm Security Suite

    Dear Bob,
Thank you so much! Your advice worked like a charm! I'm up and running with no problems on ZoneAlarm Security Suite. I have turned off my Counter Spy right now, because I am not sure if the ZASS is more capable than ZAPro, or not. With only the Firewall, which also had Anti-Spyware, I kept both on and ran separate scans, thinking each would find different things. I had no problem with both activated. Nor did I seem to after installing ZASS - I only exited to prevent possible problems, just in case. Do you have any concepts about this? I thought that, if I need to ensure that both of them are not running, I would continue to update CounterSpy and continue to run scans separately.

I would like to ask if there is some place I should report the actions of Kaspersky Labs. I am a fan of theirs - at least I was before they pulled this 'bait and switch' on me. If they are doing this to everybody who is trying to update the AntiVirus Version, it might affect a lot of people. It seems that they should be called on it. What do you think?

    Thank you,
    Julia

    Hi Julia,
I'm glad that you are back up and running OK again.

I think that as a general rule, whether it be anti-virus, firewall or malware protection, you should only have one of each running actively or in the background at the same time. It's fine to have others available to run manually from time to time as you see fit or if you suspect a problem.

if you wish to contact Kapersky Labs to enter a complaint or an opinion of it's products you can pick from a list HERE

Personally, I would definitely let them know about ANY problem that I had with their software. That would apply to Kapersky or any other vendor. <img src=/S/mad.gif border=0 alt=mad width=15 height=15>
