msconfig access denied (XP Pro SR 1,2)

When attempting to make changes to my startup menu using msconfig, after clicking OK or Apply, I get the following error message:

"An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may need to log on using an Administrator account to make specified changes."

When I log on as an Administrator, I get the same error message.

Also, despite the error message, the changes are made.

    Ideas?

    Hi Peter

Do you use Zone Alarm? If so switch it off and try again.

    Ahah, then that may also be the issue <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>

    1) Start | Run
    2) Type services.msc
    3) Have a look through the lists of services in the Extended and Standard tabs and find McAffee
    4) Stop the McAfee service (temporarily)
    5) Try running msconfig again
