Office Shortcut Bar (Win98)

A couple of days ago when I turned on my computer, the icons in the Office Shortcut Bar (usually in the upper right corner) that shows all the icons for the diff. applications i.e. Word, Excel etc. show as black/empty boxes, but no icons anymore. Has anyone experienced this and how can I change it? Please help, I'd appreciate it.

What version of Office are you using? Is the machine linked to a network? Is Office installed locally or run from a server?

Hi Charlotte,

I'm using Office 2000, running locally and yes, my computer (at home) is networked to my second computer, it's a peer to peer. But that has been like that for almost 3 years but the Shortcut bar has never done this before. Maybe I got the "Code Red"

Then the only thing I can suggest is to uninstall and then reinstall the OSB. Knowledgebase article Q199185 contains information on how to remove and reinstall the Office ShortcutBar.

Have you tried closing the Office took bar and then restarting it?
This has cleared things for me in the past.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Office Shortcut Bar (Win98)

Thank you Charlotte and Dave,

I have tried a couple of things like turning off my computer, closing the shortcut bar. Before reinstaling everything I tried to go to the customize option for the shortcut bar, removed the buttons and added them back on. That actually works. I was just hoping that there would be an easier way. Also, I am wondering why that happens??? Any idea?? Wondering if it may just be one of these Microsoft things...

Thanks again for your help,
Tira

Right-click the Office shortcut bar and select Refresh Icons. I've had the icons in my shortcut bar do strange things a few times and that has so far always fixed it.

Thanks, Douglas, I will remember that one. Would be so much easier then recreating the whole thing.
