    Office 2003 default VS office 2007 (2003/2007)

I installed office 2007 side by side with office 2003. Yes the install let me keep both words and excel. HOWEVER, I find that loading an attachment in windows mail that is an xls or a doc will load through the new excel2007 exe and word2007 respectively. This is slow. And then when I go to run word or excel 2003 it causes office installer to come on for 2 minutes to automatically reconfigure/install 2003 and then load.
    1. Can I make all xls and doc files through the email only open with the old office 2003.
I have used windows explorer to have the 2003 program be the default opening program for these files versus 2007 but this does NOT seem to carry over to attachments in email.
Could i save the attachements first and then load them through the 2003 program yes, but then if I am quickly reading the file I then have to manually delete it causing extra steps
    Thanks
    Jerome

It is a good idea to save attachments and open the saved file anyway. If you open attachments directly from an e-mail you run the risk of ending up with a lot of left-behind files in the usually well-hidden Outlook Secure Temporary Folder.

I always thought Outlook simply launched files using the same "File Types" settings that govern Windows Explorer. I'm surprised to hear that you've managed to make them diverge.

Hi actually I referred to windows mail under vista versus Outlook mail. Hans changed the reference in his note and I did not correct him
    Thanks

I don't know where Windows Mail stores its temporary copies of attachments, but my recommendation not to open attachments directly from an e-mail remains the same. And sorry, I still don't know a solution to your problem.
