    files to delete

I have a lot of *.gid files on my disk. What are they? Can they be deleted?

When in doubt, move them to find out.. copy them all to another directory, aside from thier original location, and see if it has any effect.

You might also try going over to Dogpile and do a search for "File Extension Database". That might tell you what a .GID file is..

    Hope that helps!

Those are the index files that are created when you open a Help file for the first time and get the screen with the book with the turning pages. You can delete them, bu the next time you open the Help file that they go with you will have to wait for it to be created again.

I've 96 on my system, and I can't see any reason to get rid of them. They are not litter, and only if you're (very) short of HD space should you bother.

Let sleeping dogs, and system files, lie.
