MS Word for Mac (Word X Mac/ 1)

How do you make MS Word the default program when opening attachments. When I open a document from emails it always opens in text file.
I have done the following:
Right click on any word document.
Click on Open With
Choose Word among the applications
Check the box that says "Always Open With"
IT still opens in text file. I have even deleted text file.

I hope you'll get a reply soon, but please keep in mind that we have relatively few Macintosh users in this forum. Most use the Windows version of Word.

Thank you Hans, I would think it would be the same way to make MS Word program the default program.

The program associated with a file type is an operating system setting, not a Word setting. I don't know how Mac OS handles this type of thing.

Try this ...

To open a document with a specific application:
In the Finder, select the document and choose File > Get Info.
In the Info window, click to show the "Open with" pane.
Choose the application you want to use from the pop-up menu.
If you want all documents that have the same file type as this one to open with the same application, click Change All.

Hope this helps (the right click solution usually works with Apple applications - but not all (read MS) follow Apple's rules.) The above should work as it is OS driven, rather than Word driven!
