Posting Spreadsheets to message board (2000/9.0.2720)

I'm trying to post some data from Excel to a Yahoo message board. After cutting and pasting, the data appears in total disarray on the board. Would someone please give me clear, specific steps on how to place spreadsheet data on message boards and retain the column and row alignments?

I'm not familiar with the Yahoo message board but have had a similar problem.

    1. Create a new Word doc.
    2. Copy the required range from Excel
    3. Switch to Word and use Edit, Paste Special and use either the Picture or Bitmap option.
    4. Copy the picture and paste to Yahoo or wherever

    Hope this helps

    John,

Everything was working until I went to paste the picture. That option was greyed out. Do you have any other ideas?

Before actually copying the range from Excel, hold down the shift key, and then use Edit, Copy Picture, and you can experiment with the options offered. You should then be able to paste as a picture in Word.

    Andrew C,

Let me clarify that the problem was with pasting into the Yahoo message board, not into Word.

If the Message Board is causing the diasarray by shrinking or deleting the tabs between cells, you may want to:
    1. convert the Word table to text (in my experience pasting Excel into Word usually results in a table), then replace ^t with four (or whatever) spaces, than manually edit for alignment, then post, or...
    2. Copy from Excel into Notepad and likewise manually edit, then post. (Other text editors Than NotePad may allow you to specifically S&R tabs.)

Paste it into Yahoo instead of Word.

    Legare,

There have been a lot of suggestions and I'm not sure what steps you are suggesting. I have tried copying directly from Excel and pasting in Yahoo. That is where the whole problem began.

    John,

You will need to explain better what you are talking about. I don't understand what you mean by replacing ^t with four spaces and S&R tabs.

Would you mind going back and trying to clearly lay out the steps you think would work, or better yet, trying them yourself and then posting what actually works?

Select the cells you want to copy. Hold down the shift key and then select "Copy Picture" from the Edit menu. Paste the picture into Yahoo.

    Legare,

I presume you are not trying this because when I go to paste in Yahoo, the "paste" selection is greyed out.

No, I do not have access to anyplace in Yahoo where I could paste it. Have you tried both the Picture and the BitMap formats when you copy? Yahoo may not allow pasting graphics. If so, you will probably need to ask them how to do this. They may have something similar to the pre tags used here to keep things formatted properly.

    Legare,

I tried both picture and bitmap formats. I've also posted to Yahoo boards asking the same question to no avail.

Re: Posting Spreadsheets to message board (2000/9.0.2720)

S&R = Search and Replace, but in Word it's Find and Replace. "^t" is the "special" character to find (or replace) tabs .

Here's a very brief bit of spreadsheet which I copied to Word, converted from Table to Text , replaced the tabs with spaces, and edited for alignment. Then I was reminded that the Lounge strips excess spaces and "pre" tags messed up the spacing, so in Word I replaced each set of three spaces with the lounge "tab" tag:
    IUVPP Dedicated Switched
    Argentina $0.6160 27.30% $0.4478 $0.4769
    Australia $0.3290 27.30% $0.2392 $0.2683
    Belgium $0.3820 27.30% $0.2777 $0.3068
    Brazil $0.4910 27.30% $0.3570 $0.3860
    Chile $0.4620 27.30% $0.3359 $0.3650

So it doesn't come out quite as neat here.

    John,

To be honest, John, you are losing me with guidance such as "replacing each set of three spaces with the lounge "tab" tag. I really need some clear, step-by-step instructions without the tech jargon, or at least with an explanation. I appreciate your effort, but sometimes it's hard to get this without verbal dialogue.
