Google Desktop Search (XP Professional)

The Google Desktop Search icon has disappeared from my Notification Area. I use this software only occasionally, but when I need it, I REALLY need it. At the moment, I don't know how I can launch it.

Any tips on getting the icon back or running the software from elsewhere?

I don't run it, but this link talks a little about how to stop, re-start, etc. How can I shut-down Google Desktop Search

I've looked around, but not found any help. This thing seems to be dead on my computer, but when I go to program files and click the install icon, it tells me that search is already installed.

In Task Manager, do you have ANY of the three (or four) EXE processes running of the names they mention? If so, can you stop them? If so, do you have or not have an entry for it in your Start Menu, as mentioned in the article? Have you tried a complete un-install via Control Panel?

Can you uninstall it from the Add/Remove Software control panel?

From here....

"If for some unknown reason the GDS icon is missing in your tray bar, open the Windows Task Manager by right clicking on the task bar or pressing Alt+Ctrl+Del.

You will see three process running GoogleDesktop.exe, GoogleDesktopSetup.exe, GoogleDesktopIndex.exe, and GoogleDesktopCrawl.exe - right click on each of these process and choose the "End Process" menu.

Google Desktop can be restarted from the Windows Start menu."

Yeah Doc, see <post:=670,325>post 670,325</post:> and my tongue-in-check remark about (three) or is it (four) processes in <post:=670,563>post 670,563</post:>?

i.e.

GoogleDesktop.exe
GoogleDesktopSetup.exe
GoogleDesktopIndex.exe
GoogleDesktopCrawl.exe
