    Cookies not persistent (IE6, SP2)

    Afternoon -

I am having trouble with getting some Cookie choices to 'stick.' I have entered the name of the Cookie(s) in IE/Privacy/Trusted Sites/Allow (setting at Medium High); I have also entered them in Cookie Wall. Yet, I still get a New Cookie Detected pop-up when I start a new session.

    Under Privacy/Advanced, nothing is selected.

I have entered the sites as http:// and www. I still get the message. (Is there a difference for Cookie purposes between these 2 designations?)

I can't think of where to look that might be interfering with my choices.

    Suggestions?

    As always, my thanks.

Hmmm, I do have options selected under Advanced:

    _X_ Override automatic cookie handling
    First party cookies: prompt
    Third party cookies: Block
    _X_ Always allow session cookies

I've been using these settings so long that I can't remember the default behavior. So the default behavior also is to prompt?? Do you check the box to apply your decision to all cookies from the site?

In the sites list, the permission is limited to the specified host and any of its subdomains. In other words:

    yahoo.com matches www.yahoo.com and mail.yahoo.com
    www.yahoo.com does NOT match mail.yahoo.com

    Thank you, Jefferson.

I had been wondering if there were a "parent" domain that governs the subdomains. Are you saying to leave off http and www when entering a site name to have all the subdomains "accepted."?

"Do you check the box to apply your decision to all cookies from the site?" I have Always Allow checked, if this is what you mean.

I conformed my settings to yours under Advanced. I then rebooted and still get New Cookie Detected for the same 2 sites:
    Tv.yahool.com/ cookie name: Ytv
    and
    welcomescreen.aol.com/ cookie name: hwsbg

What's puzzling is that I allow cookies from other sites with no problem, no "new cookie detected" message.

    Thanks for your time,

    Curious

Have you installed or updated any other security software recently? Something that has real time component to it such as SpyBot, Norton Security, ZA security, etc.

    Morning, Joe -

Nothing recently installed. If I ever figure this out, I will post back.

    Thanks for the suggestion,
    Curious
