    validating email addresses (outlook 2003)

I have a great many email addresses that may no longer be valid - I never get any type of response - one way or another.

Is there a service or feature that I can use to validate the email addresses?

    Thanks

    Tom

If you don't get a response, the e-mail address is still valid, but it may have been abandoned by its owner, or the owner doesn't bother to reply, or the owner is on vacation, ...
If the e-mail address is no longer valid, you get an "Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender" reply.

How much time do you want to spend on this project?

One approach is to send them a message that is unlikely to be filtered and ask them to reply. Assuming they want to hear from you. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Another method would be to research your correspondents on the web (e.g., their work addresses might be on a web site, or they might have started a blog, etc.).

A third possibility is to use a program that asks the destination server whether the address is valid. Due to "directory harvesting" attacks, the server may be configured to ignore your queries if there are too many of them.
