    Word 97 SR-2 (Find/replace all caps)

I have a document that's littered with last names in all caps. I'm trying to do a find/replace to change all caps formatting to no caps formatting, but it's not working for me. Ideally, I would change everything that's in all caps to small case, except for the first letter (since they are names).

Highlight the text. Press "Shift,F3". More than once. It cycles through Upper case, lower case, title case.

    Morning -

Try this: In Find, click Match case and type name in caps [SMITH]

In Replace, click Match Case and type name with only first letter capped [Smith]

    Hope this helps. ACM

The attached macro can speed things up; it searches for words consisting of two or more caps, and gives you the choice to replace all occurrences to mixed case.
It will of course also show all acronyms like USA; so if all your names are longer than three letters, you might want to change the line
    <pre> .Text = "[A-Z]{2,}>"</pre>

    to
    <pre> .Text = "[A-Z]{4,}>"</pre>

(I have to use semicolons {2;} in my german Word, but AFAIK it's a comma in english versions)

Thanks, Klaus. then macro works well. Is there a way to get it to just make the changes without asking if it's ok to change each one?

You could comment out the line
    <pre> MsgAnswer = ...</pre>

    and put the line
    <pre> MsgAnswer = vbYes</pre>

    instead

... not very elegant, but it should work.

Klaus, would it possible to tweak this macro so that it will change the case of words that are all caps and possessives? When the script comes to a word like SMITH'S it changes it to SMITH's.

Haven't tried it, but if you include the apostrophe(s) in the range [A-Z], that should work.
There are two kinds of apostrophes, the curly
