    Unlink field (Word 97 SR-2)

I understand that I can make Word unlink an autoupdate field (such as insert date) by pressing ctrl-shift-F9. But is there a way to automatically unlink an insert date field when a document is saved? For example, I have a letterhead that automatically inserts the date. If I save a copy of a letter written today, and then decide to take a look at it tomorrow, the date field is updated, unless yesterday I unlinked it before I saved it. How would I automate this process?

Use the SaveDate or the CreateDate field instead of th eDate field.

You can also lock the field result by pressing Ctrl+F11.

For a suggestion for creating a template to automate this, see this post by Phil Rabichow.

Locks, unless served with bagels, are less preferred as one could inadvertently unlock the fields.

    SAveDate and CreateDate are safer.
