Word Options Grayed Out (Office 2007)

I just received Office 2007 on one of my work computers. I can change the options (e.g., default file location) on all applications except Word. They are grayed out.

I am an administrator on this computer. Our tech support people are stumped.

Any ideas of what we can check??

What happens if you select Start | Run... (in Windows), type
<code>
winword /a
</code>
and press Enter? Can you set options in the "bare bones" version of Word that appears?

Yes, I can!

Why would that be different?

The /a switch makes Word load without any customizations.

It was written for pre-2007 versions of Word, so some things will be different, but the general idea should still be valid. (Note: the normal template in Word 2007 is named normal.dotm instead of normal.dot).
