    Uninstalling Access 2002 (XP SP3)

    Hi,

At my job, I created custom installation wizards to install Office XP Standard and Office XP Professional and a custom manintenance wizard to add Access 2002 to the Standard install. All worked fine and are in production.

Now management wants Access 2002 removed from certain pcs. I'm developing a custom maintenance wizard to do this. This wizard works fine (early testing) with pcs where Access 2002 was added to the Standard install. This wizard doesn't work at all with the Professional install. I haven't tried to drill down as what is going on here yet.

Both custom installation wizards started with the same Pro.msi. The custom maintenance wizard also refers to this pro.msi.

I don't see why the removal wizard works in one case but not the other.

Any ideas or suggestions? Anyone do anything like this before?

    Thanks in advance.

    All,

I'm wondering if in the case of Access being added to Standard, Access could be removed since it was not part of the original 'bundle' of Office. And therefore in the case of Professional since Access was part of the original 'bundle' it cannot be removed.

I don't know anything about installation wizards, so I can't help you with that. But it should be possible to remove Access from an installation of Microsoft Office Professional - you can do it interactively in the Add/Remove Software control panel, by setting Microsoft Access to Not Available.

That's good to know. It suggesgts that there may be a command string or registry entry to try.

    Thanks.

Create a configuration maintenance file (CMW file) using Custom Maintenance Wizard from Office Resource Kit.

Apply Office configuration changes on user's computers executing the command
    maintwiz.exe /c <path>MyConfig.cmw

See Changing Feature Installation States for more information.

    Thanks for replying.

This is what I am doing. It works with my StandardAccess install but not my Professional install.

I'll try to look at the logs and hopefully see what is going on.

    Thanks again.
