    Numbered lists in Word (2003)

    Hello all,

I am told that in a correct, professional numbering scheme, the first letter of one level has to line up with the text of the previous paragraph. Word, by default in Normal.dot, does not do it this way (see attached). Is this just my computer or does Normal.dot show up this way on all computers?

Does anyone know how to modify these outline levels to reflect the correct formatting in the second outline on my attached document? When I try to modify the Style, it doesn't even let me get into the "paragraph" options.

    Kind regards,

    JMT

The tabs for outline numbering are set in the Format > Bullets and Numbering dialog box.

See http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/NumberAlignment.htm for advice in this area.
