Create new email mail (Word 2000 prof. SP2)

I know that the menu bar in O.E. can be set to "Focus" by hitting the "Alt" key but is it possible to do the same with the "Create Mail" tab rather than having to resort to the mouse PLEASE? (Still on a mission to consign the mouse to it's trap.)

You posted this question in the Outlook forum, the subject says Word 2000 and in your question you mention O.E. which I assume stands for Outlook Express.

    What is your question about? <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>

If your question is about Outlook Express, see the Help section entitled "Tips and Tricks", subsection "Using Outlook Express keyboard shortcuts". On a quick review, the keyboard shortcut to create a new email message appears to be "Ctrl-N".

Re: Create new email mail (Word 2000 prof. SP2)

OOPs Sorry Hans, new to this game; seems I chose the wrong category I should have selected Outlook Express as the subject. I thought the attachment would have hinted at what I was asking; the second responder seems to have assumed what I was hinting at as his reply answers my question. With Outlook Express opened at my IN box I was simply wondering if I could make the "Create Mail" tab to be in Focus [that's the term I was told is appropriate for when a tab is clicked. ] as e.g. happens when the "Alt" key is hit and the "File" tab blues out. The simple answer it seems is, to type Ctrl + N which opens a blank email though it does not open the "Select Stationary menu" which stores templates I have created as happens if I click on "Create mail" but I can live with that. Sorry if I deviated from the norm, will get it right in the long run I hope, but thanks for the response anyway. PS. [By the way, pardon my ignorance, it is obvious there is a difference between Microsoft Office Outlook & Microsoft Office Outlook Express / Window Mail as they are in distinct categories but what question would one submit to the former?] Thanx.

Re: Create new email mail (Word 2000 prof. SP2)

For others reading this: this thread was originally posted in the Outlook forum

Outlook Express is the e-mail program that comes with Windows (by the way, it's been renamed to Windows Mail in Windows Vista, hence the name of this forum: Outlook Express / Windows Mail).

Outlook is a different program. It is part of Microsoft Office, and it has many more features than Outlook Express.

All questions should be posted in the forum that is most appropriate, so questions about Outlook Express belong in the Outlook Express forum, and questions about Outlook in the Outlook forum. Both are different from Word, so there is no reason to mention Word in the subject.

Received and understood, bow I know the difference between them and that Windows Mail relates to 2007. Thanks again till next time Hans,
I'm sure there will be something else that will puzzle me as I keep exploring the many tentacles of this IT stuff. Regards...

You can press Alt+M to activate the Message menu
Then press the down arrow key to select "New Message Using".
Press the right arrow key or Enter to open the submenu.

Thanks John, you got it right in one. Why I never delved into the help file is a mystery though it should serve as a lesson to me and other readers to do some research first then ask second, seems too many of us novices are guilty of this shortcoming. Please forgive us, we are at best fumbling through this fog called T.T. land. Regards.

Re: Create new email mail (Word 2000 prof. SP2)

WELL! thanks again Hans, something else I have learned today, so I can after all navigate to the email stationary I have created without resorting to the mouse.
GREAT; two boxes ticked in one day, slowly getting there.
PS. By the way, your use of the word "Activate" in the first line of your reply is the one I chose when asking a question on another forum "Blacktoppstudios.com" [now defunct ] some time ago and was told the experts use the word "Focus" e.g. to activate an icon on the desktop. Don't know if you have come across it but in my book, Activate seems an appropriate term to use. Kind Regards.

Re: Create new email mail (Word 2000 prof. SP2)

"To set focus to" and "to activate" are both valid ways to say it. "To set focus to" is more programmer's jargon, and if you browse these forums, you'll find that it's used here too, but there is no objection at all against "to activate".

"Windows Mail" does NOT relate to Office 2007, but is part of the NEW Vista Operating System and has NOTHING to do with the Office 2007 package.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Create new email mail (Word 2000 prof. SP2)

Thanks Hans, at least I now know that both terms are understood by moderators & reader alike, feel somewhat embarrassed when I use some phrase to explain a problem which is not strictly compute jargon, there are so many definitions like jpg, jif, mp3; html; pdf; macro;Rtf; XML add infinitum. we oldies [at least this oldie] gets so confused by them all.
    Regards again.

Re: Create new email mail (Word 2000 prof. SP2)

Dave, don't feel awkward, there's a lot to learn.

I notice that this Post I'm replying to is an expansion on the previous one you posted, and then deleted. So here's a couple of things for you to try in the Test Forum, which is where we go to try new Lounge things (and test graphics, etc).

You can edit posts you have made - many of us edit our posts to correct errors or to expand on an issue. This icon <IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/edit.gif> above a Post is the Edit Icon. Only you and Lounge Moderators/Administrators can edit your posts. When you click on the Edit icon, your Post reopens with the existing text, and you can make changes.

In addition, you can check the "radio button" in the Edit Post window (see picture below) to indicate that you have edited the post, then the post is tagged with an Edited" icon <IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/edited.gif> so other Loungers know you have made changes. I usually check that button if I have made substantive changes, but not if I merely corrected typos or grammos. And as you can see, you can optionally add explanatory text about why you edited the Post, so Loungers can see what and why you changed it.

When you get time, have a look through the Lounge Help and FAQ, see links at top right of Lounge page.

The first version of the reply was deleted by me, since it had become superfluous. Thanks for the instructive explanation!
