Windows Mail not being sent immediately (Vista)

A (different!) friend of mine reports a problem on Vista Windows Mail where sent messages do not leave his Outbox until he closes down Windows Mail (or, perhaps, when he opens it up again).

There are lots of reports of associated problems in the newsgroups, so I should add that he is not getting messages permanently stuck, is not sending unusual attachments, and he has set his virus-checker off while he is testing this problem out. As far as I am aware, he is up-to-date with Vista fixes...

    Any suggestions are welcomed!

Under options and on the General tab, does he have "Check for messages every # minutes" checked?
I would reset the default of 30 minutes to something less than that also.

On the send tab, is "Send messages immediately" checked?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Dave

He hasn't reported a problem with receiving messages, but, yes, he certainly has the "Send messages immediately" option ticked.

I think the SEND will not work if the "Timed" is not checked.

Thanks, Dave, but this new Vista user is so unimpressed by the problems he has experienced with Windows Mail that he has now downloaded Thunderbird...

I have had NO issues or problems, even during Beta it was working just fine for me.
He has some setting or security package that may be blocking him.

If Thunderbird works without problems, there is no case to be made for Windows Mail!

Just to close this post off, it seems that the culprit was a "Desktop SMS" application on the Toshiba laptop. Uninstalling this caused Windows Mail then to perform as expected!

(The user said, "Why on earth would I ever want to send SMS text messages from my laptop when I have a perfectly good mobile phone?" !)

    Because the laptop has a better keyboard than a mobile phone? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/innocent.gif border=0 alt=innocent width=20 height=20>

I've installed Windows Live Mail beta on machines at work & home. I use it primarily for newsgroup access and have not had any significant problems so far. From what I've read it performs better and is more reliable than Windows Mail even though it is beta. Your friend may want to try that if any more issues arise with WM.

Re: Windows Mail not being sent immediately (Vista

Hans: I quote from my earlier email to the former sufferer, "Some people like sending text messages from a computer because it's considerably easier to type on a proper keyboard."

Joe: I saw a rumour that Microsoft might be replacing Windows Mail with Windows Live Mail, but since the latter is only at beta 2, this may be some way off...
