    Moving Comments (2003 SP2)

    Good afternoon

When I add comments to a cell they automatically appear to the right, if I right click the cell and select 'edit comment' it will allow me to drag the comment box to the left of the cell, however when I hover it is still on the right, if I go back into edit again the comment box is still showing on the left where I moved it.

To try and simulate this I inserted a a cell to the left with the comment in it but the comment (no matter how large I make the cell) still shows to the right and covers the text in the next cell which is what I want to avoid.

    Any ideas please

AFAIK, Moving a comment affects only where a VISIBLE comment is displayed (which is where it is edited). I don't think there is a way to change where a non-visible comment gets displayed when the cell is selected.

On a related note: You can control the input message from "data validation" and place it in a particular location. With validation, all messages show up in the same place. This can be a plus or a minus depending on the needs...

If you only show comment indicators, comments will always pop up to the right of the cell they belong to.
If you show indicators and comments, comments will be displayed where you dragged them.
You can toggle between the settings using View | Comments (or in the View tab of Tools | Options...)

    Thanks Steve & Hans

I was actualy adding pictures in comments as per Rudi's excellent tip <post#=394,332>post 394,332</post#> and because of their size they tend to obscure too much to the right, that is why I wanted the comment to the left, I have left a blank column to the right now so that nothing is obscured.

    Thanks again
