    Fill-in Fields (2003)

I've been asked to create some new Word 2003 templates using "prompts" for certain variable information. In the past I've used Fill-in fields with great success. However, I've been asked to "lump" all these "pop-up" fill-in fields into one dialog that appears at startup. I've done this using VBA, but my question is whether or not there is an easier, faster way without using VBA?
    Thanks.

    Re: Fill-in Fields (2003)

The disadvantage of fill-in fields is that each displays a separate prompt. So if you have 10 fill-in fields, the user will have to work his or her way through 10 dialogs. A userform created in the Visual Basic Editor can replace those 10 dialogs with one user-friendly dialog.

An alternative would be to use form fields in a document partially or entirely protected for forms. The user can enter the information in the document itself. For form-like documents this is an attractive option, but protecting a document severely limits what the user can do, even if the document contains unprotected sections.

The best approach depends on the nature of the document.

Another way is to use an unprotected form but require a user to Update Fields or Unlink Fields as part of the process of filling in the information. I typically have done this with STYLEREF fields. A more detailed explanation can be found in <post#=389256>post 389256</post#>. Not the most elegant, but way easier than UserForms. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
