    File & Transfer Wizard (Vista)

I want to transfer files from my old XP to new Vista PC. Should I install the software (such as Quicken) first, then transfer? Where will the files go if the software is not installed? Does the Wizard make a folder for the settings?
Will it transfer settings for both IE and Firefox?
Finally, does the Wizard let you select some program data and ignore others, e.g. Yes to Quicken, No to ACT?
    Thanks,
    HH

You should install the programs on Windows Vista before transferring the settings. If you transfer the settings first, they might be removed or overwritten when you install the programs.

Windows Easy Transfer lets you specify which settings and files you want to transfer, if you wish.

See Windows Vista Help: Transferring files and settings: frequently asked questions (click Show All)

    Thanks Hans,
As usual, your response was prompt and helpful. I read the Easy Transfer Help file, but somehow missed the FAQs. Pretty good help from MS!
