Do you mean that he doesn't have the usual shortcuts to start Word, or that he gets an error message if he tries to start Word?

He doesn't have a shortcut - and when he goes to Start, Programs, it's not there.

Let your husband try the following:
    - Start Windows Explorer.
    - Navigate to C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice10 (this is for Office XP, for Office 2003 it's Office11 and for Office 2007, the folder is named Office12).
    - Find Winword.exe in the right hand pane.
    - Drag Winword.exe with the right mouse button to the desktop, and release the mouse button and select Create Shortcut Here.
    - Alternatively, drag Winword.exe with the left mouse button to the Quick Start toolbar in the Windows taskbar, or to the Start button, and drop it there.

I'll give this to him and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again, Hans. Keep us in your thoughts - I'm in Southern California.

I think we will 'cause were down here in the flatlands - thanks.

Now for the admission - again - of total ignorance. We can't find a shortcut to Windows Explorer - and we CAN'T FIND IT!

    So sorry . . .

If your keyboard has a Windows key (it's between the Ctrl and Alt keys on the left, and it bears the MS Windows logo), you can press Windows+E to start Explorer.
Another way to start Windows Explorer is to right-click the big Start button in the lower left corner and to select Explore from the popup menu.

Again - my profound apology - duh! I expected to see the words "Windows Explorer" - if I had read just a little further, I wouldn't have had to look this stupid to the whole world.

Ah well - isn't the first time and won't be the last.

Pretty sure I forgot to tell you - worked perfectly - many thanks, again.
