any way to get ur cookies bak? (IE6.0)

my internet was slow, so i manually copied and backed up the folder

Cocuments and Settings<username>Local SettingsTemporary Internet Files

    and cleaned this folder out.

this didnt resolve my slow IE browsing, so i wanted to move my cookies back into the orginial folder

i didnt delete any files, i just manually moved them around on my desktop.

is there anyway to recover my cookie files?

Hmmm, I thought they were here:

Cocuments and SettingsusernameCookies

(After some research...) They are there, but apparently removing the cookie items from the TIF folder will remove them from the Cookies folder:

These files [in TIF] are pointers to the actual cookies that are located in the WindowsCookies folder. To retain the association between these pointers and the actual cookie files, they are not deleted when you empty the Temporary Internet Files folder. However, if you manually delete a cookie file from the Temporary Internet Files folder, both the pointer to the Cookies folder and the cookie file located in the Cookies folder are deleted.

Source: Emptying Temporary Internet Files Folder Leaves Cookies Files (MSKB 158769)

Hopefully you have a recent backup of your Cookies folder.

The cookies will be recreated next time you visit the websites.

mmm...i managed to get a backup from the network. ive checked and it doesnt contain all my cookies.

i understand cookies will be re-created next time i visit the websites. on creating the website accounts you have the option "automatically log me on". the password info is stored in the cookies and now i have to get my passwords emailed to me. or if its an old email address, set up new accounts

    thank you

When you receive your new passwords, you should create a document that lists your login names and passwords and store it in a safe place, for the next time you lose your automatic login.

    thank you Hans

Yes on my home pc - i have an excel spreadsheet that stores websites, accounts and passwords. i also make regular backups of my bookmarks. i use firefox and a firefox bug existed that removes all your bookmarks, i got stung...ouch!!!

The sites I surf at home are obviously different to the sites I visit at work.

so will have to start up that excel spreadsheet for work too...
