    Which HTML Editor now?

I maintain my own relatively small site (60 pages or so) and have always used Composer in Netscape 7.2 or earlier. Now though I've upgraded to Firefox and Thunderbird and am in need of a replacement means of working on the site. I've messed with MS-Word a bit and didn't like what I got as results. The only reference I find to Composer on the Mozilla site is where it is included in earlier package versions.

Is there an HTML editor that is similar in appearance and function to Composer? Obviously a free download would be nice, but I can certainly justify paying for this as well.

    Thanks,
    BH Davis

Check out Microsoft® Expression® Web. It is a nice product that produces clean code. If you qualify for upgrade pricing (have Frontpage) it is only $99.00 USD.

    I'm not sure how this corresponds, but have a look at KompoZer, which is a bug-fix version of Nvu. And, yes, it's <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> !

AS you mention Firefox, you may want to consider FireBug an add-in to Firefox

<hr>Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page...<hr>

If not to your liking, John's offering of Kompozer is great and I can thoroughly endorse it

Unless I've missed something, Firebug doesn't let me edit a page's <head> section, so it's a better testing/debugging tool than a main editor.

Any clues as to where an upgrade is available from for only US$99.00 outside of the US? The best price I could find equated to over US$160.00. (Following Microsoft's link to get a Digital Download automatically prices it at €121.90!)

    Leif

I think they've had to rework the usual [one dollar translates to one Pound Sterling] transfer rate for the euro market. Yes, of course it costs more to do business outside the US!

    Sorry, no I don't. <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15> I was just looking at the Microsoft site whose link I posted.

    Re: Which HTML Editor now?

    Downloaded both Kompozer and Firebug.

Kompozer is just what I was looking for! Firebug is a bit over my head.

    Thanks all,
    BH
