June 21 Update bug causes "Word shuts down..." XP

**Edited by BAM to include link to previous thread**

For those of you who followed and attempted to help me with my problem <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=wrd&Number=58990&Search =true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=RudyTome&Match=Userna me&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=58990>( see previous thread)</A>, thank you.

However, I stumbled on to a solution myself. In complete frustration (I was having some other problems also), I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled everything, Windows ME and Office XP professional. Lo and behold, Word was now working properly again. Then I went to the update page for XP and installed the June 21 update.

Boom. Problem returns. And then I remember, Word 2002 had been working fine until I installed this patch the first time. So I go into Add/Remove and have Office fix itself by doing a complete reinstall and restoring itself to the same state as when it was first installed.

    Problem resolved.

This leads me to believe there is a bug in their patch.

However, there is another anomoly. Now when I go to the update page to get the Outlook 2002 patch (which did not seem to cause a problem) I am told that my copy of office is current and that these patches are installed. Whether this is true or not, I don't know and don't know how to find out. Any clues about this would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to be any more unprotected than necessary.

Also, how does one let MS know about a potential bug like this?

Again, thanks for all the help.

    Hi Larry,

You might want to consider posting this to one of the MS public newsgroups, such as
    <A target="_blank" HREF=http://news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.office.misc>http://news://msnews.microsoft.com/microso...lic.office.misc</A>.

(Note! Remove http:// from your address bar after clicking the link and press <Enter> to send the link again. The URL tag is automatically adding http://)

If you have found a bug, then that would be the best route to take for MS to be notified of it. The Office MVP's that hang out there can direct the bug report to the correct person(s) at MS.

    Bam,

Thanks for editing to post to include a link to the previous thread. I did not know one could do that. Nor would I have known how to do that if I had.

Also thanks for the referral to the news list. I have posted there and will wait for a response.

    Larry
