    Installing RPM's in Ubuntu

I want to install the Vmware player in Ubuntu. The download is an RPM file, and I get a message that RPM files can't be managed in Ubuntu.

Then I found in the help where it says I need to convert the package with the command

Sudo alien package-name.rpm and it would convert and then install.

But then I get an error (alien) "command not found"

Is there a way to do this? How can I convert or install this package?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

I think you'd be better off to follow the instructions I found here via Google. I used it a few weeks ago to setup on my 7.04 installation.

    Chris:

Why the server instead of the player?

    My mistake Chuck.

I don't use the vmplayer, as I develop VMimages at work for specific tasks. I use the server to create them, and host them for my end users.

    Sorry about that.
