Automatic Text Adjustment Not Always Working (XP)

Normally, when you type too much text into a bullet list, the font size automatically reduces to keep the text within the border as long as possible. The same thing happens when you reply a slide layout.

However, I have noticed that sometimes this does not happen regardless how much text I type of how much text is in place when I reapply the slide layout. What causes this and is there any way to cause the normal behavior to return?

    Select Tools | AutoCorrect Options...
Activate the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
Tick the check boxes "AutoFit title text to placeholder" and "AutoFit body text to placeholder".
    Click OK.

Hans - what if both boxes are already checked... but the behavior continues?
