Missing (but not really) fonts

Internet Explorer 5.5 sp1.
My hospital has just moved to Netscape Messenger Express email which is accessed via a browser. In my case (but no-one else's apparently!) the various drop down menus for option boxes show little squares instead of letters. That is usually a sign that a font is missing BUT if I hit refresh the text appears as if by magic!

Any help out there?

You can try deleting ttfcache in the windows directory, and then rebooting. It could do the trick.

Nice thought, but doesn't work. Thanks for trying. Did I mention that I'm using Windows 95?

It's OK, In case anyone's still interested... I've fixed it myself It was an encoding thing. A right-click on the desktop pops up a menu with (among other things) Encoding. Deselecting autoselect fixed my problem. But why?
