    WorkbookCrash (Excel2000)

When trying to make a simple Sort my workbook crashed. The Task Manager indicated that Excell was not responding.
Cannot reopen the .xls file and workbook. Just a white screen with and houglass icon.Microsoft KnowledgeBase was not helpful. I haven't had any problem with this workbook in the past.

Have you restarted your PC? If not, a trace of the problem may remain in memory.
If you still can't open the workbook after restarting, it must have become corrupt. Restore a recent backup if you have one. Start making backups *now* if you don't have one.

In addition to what Hans suggested, if the workbook contains macros, then start Excel and select Open from the File menu. Navigate to the workbook in the file open dialog box and click on the file to select it. Hold down the shift key and click on OK in the dialog box. Continue holding the shift key down until the workbook opens or Excel hangs up.

Hi Legare, I tried what you suggested and Excel hangs up.
My only consolation is that I saved and earlier version of the workbook and printed out a hard copy of the Macros.

I can still access this worksheet but it takes about 45 minutes to load. Does that indicate the problem?

If Pieterse's link in this thread doesn't help, I fear the workbook is toast.

It looks like there is a problem with it yes. Is it on a network location or stored locally?

If you can load it, try the html trick I talk about in the article I pointed you to.
