Any compelling reason to go to Office 2007? (Office 2007)

    Hi,

I work at an Office XP shop (95%).

There is some interest in Office 2007 nevermind the funding and migrationconversion process.

Is there any compelling reason to go to Office 2007? XML features?

We don't use Outlook, sharepoint, just the standard suite (and Access).

The changed GUI would present a huge training problem.

The file formats are being dealt with vis the Compatabilty Pack.

    TIA.

    Regards,

    Jimmy

I can not think of any compelling reason to upgrade. If you can do all that you want in XP then there is no reason to upgrade.

The nearest I can get to a compelling reason would be Excel. I think it has benefited the most out of the latest applications, with quite a few of the limitations of earlier versions being expanded. For example the number of rows and columns you can have has gone up considerably. For more info see Microsoft Excel : Some other numbers ...

I will say that initially I thought the new interface would present a bit of a learning curve but it turned out to be quite easy to adapt to using it.

In addition to Excel receiving some changes, Word has also received significant changes as well. Formating is much easier, and the item that I like the best is what is known as Quick Parts. Since you don't use Outlook I won't go into the changes there. As for the learning curve, it isn't all that bad.
I would have to vote for changing over to 2007
    Thanks John

In addition to what Tony and John have posted, you'll get two major releases worth of fixes, upgrades, and re-writes. Stability and security are both significantly better. I also second the thought that the learning curve was not nearly as bad as I thought. As far as conversion goes, all your existing Office documents can be read by Office 2007. Office 2007 can also save in Office 2003 format. So, you don't necessarily have to upgrade everyone at once.
