    Footnote Symbols (MS Word 2003)

I have been trying to insert a symbol in the footnote instead of numbers, but no matter what I do, it keeps on inserting numbers. These are the steps I do: Insert, Reference, Footnote, Symbol, *, Insert. Is there something I am supposed to do that I am not doing?

    Thank you in advance.

Have you tried quitting and restarting Word?

Have you tried selecting * ... from the Number Format dropdown?

If you can't make it work, try Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word,197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word<!/post>.

    Thank you for responding.

Yes, I have tried it, but it does not work.

Yes, I have also selected the * ... from the dropdown list.

I will try Phil's approach and see if it helps. Again, thank you.
