    AVG vs Norton Antivirus

I've just read posts from 2005 (located via search function), but am still confused. We are a one computer 2 person business. We've had Norton for several years and I'm trying to decide whether to pay to renew (it's due next week) or go with AVG, which many of our email senders seem to use (according to notes at the bottom of our emails!) I'd love to save the money, but all the posts about how hard it is to get Norton completely out (we have their System Works as well) makes me nervous. I am not technically adept enough to do more than remove a program via the "Add/Remove Programs" screen. Can anyone offer some definitive advice? Perhaps things have changed since 2005?

Guess I'm asking if the money is worth the potential challenge of switching?

    Any help very welcome!

Just my personal opinion: if you're satisified with Norton AntiVirus, I'd stick with it, it's not that expensive. But if you've had problems with it, consider switching to AVG - it has a good reputation and it's free.

If you'd like to switch, you can download a removal tool from Symantec: Download and run the Norton Removal Tool.

One other consideration: if you are using Norton Internet Security Suite or another bundle containing Norton Antivirus, you might want to add a couple other products to build a complete replacement, such as a software firewall, anti-spam product, and anti-spyware product.

    Re: AVG vs Norton Antivirus

Thanks very much to both of you. Practical advice. Given my nervousness (and the fact that I do have Norton's System Works in the computer so would need to add even more free programs re. Jshcer), I think I will renew my NAV for now, just to be safe. Certainly we've never had any problems with it. Maybe a compromise position would be to renew until I get time (and confidence), then remove it temporarily to try AVG for a while and compare. Not sure if you can do a temporary removal, but I'd think you could reinstall it if you still had a valid paid-up subscription.

I appreciate your replies and suggestions very much.

    Linda
