Google Maps is Hosed (IE6/Windows XP)

Hi, all. Today I noticed that Google Maps isn't functioning correctly on my new laptop. I'm frustrated because it happened on my previous machine as well, and I don't even have a clue as to what caused it.

I'm attaching a screen capture of what I see when I try to access Google Maps. Hopefully, someone can point me in the right direction to fix it.

    Thanks.

Your attachment doesn't contain a picture (it's only 231 bytes in size)

Edited by HansV to replace Word doc with cropped version of the image it contained - saves disk space and clicks

Sorry... I don't know why WordPad stripped it out... it took long enough to save it!!! Here's a Word doc with the screen cap...

Hmm, it doesn't even load the stylesheet (CSS) of the page. Do you have problems with other Google sites such as the main page Google, Picasa etc.?

Yep. Everything else (iGoogle, Gmail) all look fine. I even checked my IE settings against another machine on which the page DOES display; from what I can tell, they're prettty much the same.

    Have you been using Google Maps very intensively? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
Apparently, Google Maps has recently been blocking IP addresses that used too much bandwidth. (See Were you blocked Tuesday? Read this for an explanation)

If its a new laptop you may not have a Java Runtime installed yet. That is essential for Google Maps

From what I can tell, JRE is installed, but if you can give me any tips on how to verify how WELL it's installed, I'd welcome them. And Hans, I hadn't even used Maps from that PC in several days, and I don't think I use any more than any casual user. Also, it's definitely specific to this machine, since it appears just fine on the other machines I use.

My iGoogle page loads and behaves just fine, as do most other sites I go to. But on most every Google site--including the Help Groups--it's utter chaos. I'm attaching a document with several screen caps showing various errors I am getting.

Is the Java version you have installed compatible with Google maps? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java?
