Enter and display Minutes (2003)

    greetings,

I know this is basic, but I just do not see how to get the Format of a cell to display in minutes and seconds.

Basically, I am tracking minutes played in a game per player. for instance, the player is in a game for a total of 31 m and 15 sec. How do I get the cell to display the mins and secs? So far, I have tried each of the cell formats and it is not displaying.

    Thanks
    Brad

There is no built-in format that does exactly what you want. Select Custom in the list of Categories, and enter the custom format

    mm:ss

if times will always be less than 60 minutes (1 hour), or

    [mm]:ss

if you also want to display times of 60 minutes and higher.

IMPORTANT: you must *always* enter the time including an hour component, because Windows expects that. So 31 minutes and 15 seconds must be entered as 0:31:15.
On the other hand, if you include an hour component, Windows is reasonably forgiving: you can enter 70 minutes and 30 seconds as 1:10:30 or as 0:70:30.

    Hans,
Thanks for the advise! Works great. Now to add a reminder for when I do this particular task....
