    Thunderbird Line Spacing (TB 2.0.0.6)

I have had a long standing but occasional problem with line spacing in Thunderbird and wonder if it's something on my system or if anyone else ever experiences it and if there's a workaround.

In the message composition mode I will occasionally get a spurious extra line space after the period at the end of a sentence. I simply space to start a new sentence and the <img src=/w3timages/censored.gif alt=censored border=0> composition screen starts a new, double spaced, paragraph. If I go back to the end of the previous sentence and delete the extra line feeds, I can get the paragraph to continue as I intended it to do.

On the opposite end of the spectrum it seems, there are times when I DO press the ENTER key twice to intentionally start a new, double-spaced, paragraph and the text seems OK in the composition window. But, after sending the email, that new paragraph will NOT be double spaced but will start one line below the previous paragraph.

Has anyone else ever seen behavior like this?

I don't use Thunderbird, but I can assure you that Outlook 2003's HTML editing capabilities are at least as bad as that! (I regularly select my entire message or reply and re-apply what Outlook calls the Normal style to get rid of mixed spacing between paragraphs. Then, if I am feeling especially paranoid, I add a single space to the beginning of blank lines in the hope that this will prevent them from disappearing.)

I wouldn't worry too much about what an email message looks like before you send it, you're pretty much at the mercy of the recipient's email client anyway. They'll usually format whatever you send in their own idiosyncratic way. That's why I usually send plain text emails.

As an aside, (not completely offtopic) I've tried to stop attaching text files using thunderbird after I discovered that the NHS (National Health Service) email system liked to include the text as part of the email. So even though I've tried to save bandwidth and storage by sending a (usually) compact text file, If I want to attach a quick note I have to word process it in Word (2000 here in Healthcare land) with all the overhead that entails.

The infuriating thing is that I can see the formatting problems -- like two lines in much larger font, making it appear I added emphasis at random -- in my own Sent Items folder. The view while composing simply does not accurately reflect the view as received.
