Fitting words vertically in the same cell (2003)

Does some one know how to make words fit in one cell vertically in stead of changing the cell size and make it fit horizontally? Please look at mine example. What do I need to do to fit words in cells the same way?

I'm afraid I don't understand what you want. Can you explain more clearly, or provide an example of what you expect the result to be?

Re: Fitting words vertically in the same cell (2003)

My goal is to reduce cell width. If I wrote column hadder this way:

DATE OF INITIAL INVESTMENT - the cell will be to wide

What I want is to position words in the same sell this way:

    DATE OF
    INITIAL
INVESTMENT - the cell width is less than in the example above

I can do that by placing these words int the 3 rows, but I don't want to do that. I want them all in the same cell just like in my attached example.

Why can't you set the Wrap Text opton and set the column width as you did in your example?

Select the cells, press Ctrl+1 and it's on the Alignment tab.

Perhaps this will do what you want:
    - Select the cells you want to format.
    - Select Format | Cells...
    - Activate the Alignment tab.
    - Tick the check box "Wrap text" (you had this in your first example).
    - Select Top in the Vertical Alignment dropdown (you may have to scroll up the list to see this option).
    - Click OK.
    - Edit each of the cells, click where you want a line break in the text, then Alt+Enter.
    - You can insert multiple line breaks in a single cell if you wish.

If that doesn't do what you want, I still don't understand.

Ah - you didn't know about the Wrap Text option. It was set in your first example, so I assumed that you knew about it. That's why I didn't understand your question.

If you're after narrow columns, alextol, here are two other ways of achieving this.
It involves playing with the 'angle' tool in the Format | Cells | Alignment dialogue box.
