    Re: Spyware ???

No comments on what Spybot S & D found, but to fix anything shown in the window you have attached, you would have to click "Fix selected problems", after you have selected one or more.

Immunize is pre-emptive, here as in the real world.

If Spybot S & D has anything to comment about the scan result, you can click the right-hand arrows for the fly out menu.

Have you searched for Rognerud Research Inc.?

    Re: Spyware ???

Rognerud Reseach produced a file recovery program initially for Windows 95 and 98. I don't know if they ever updated it for XP or later.

Do you HAVE or ever did have, File Recovery installed on your system?
Do you want it to remain, if indeed you do have it installed?

If you click on the check box that is on the listed file, it will open up more details about the file and where it may be located in the registry.

AND as Argus said, clicking on "fix the selected problems" will generally remove the file, not just attempt to immunize it.

    Spyware ???

Edited by HansV to crop HUGE screenshot consisting mainly of white space.

Please can someone enlighten me regarding an intruder that Spybot S & D exposed but which, despite clicking the Immunize tab, fails to get rid of it? Please see attachment
for details. It is shown as Rognerud Research Inc. Regards Dave.

    Re: Spyware ???

Sorry Hans. Despite following the instructions you sent me to the letter the screen shot has arrived too big again, I used the cropping tool in the said program and re-saved it as directed but it seems the original screen shot was converted into the jpg. image. It appears it is back to the drawing board in this matter. Dave.

    Re: Spyware ???

Edited by Big Al to reduce unneeded areas of the graphic. It isn't only size, Dave, but appearance as well.

Thank you gentlemen, by acting on the comments you made jointly I can now report that my computer has a clean bill of health. I noticed HansV cropped my previous attachment because it had useless excess white space. I hope he does not have to do the same with the one on this post as I have - by using Microsoft Photo Editor - reduced it to 64 kb jpg which is well under the maximum of 100kb as stated. I did a search in All Programs and in the Add / Remove programs in the Control Panel but could not see it and and no I don't recall downloading the File Recovery program but at my age i can't guarantee anything, SORRY, it seems some of the receptors in my brain are parting company but I won't go into that as it is without the remit of this great site. Thanks once again. Regards Dave.

In Microsoft Photo Editor, the procedure is as follows:
    - Click the dotted rectangle on the toolbar.
    - Drag a rectangle around the area you want to keep.
    - Press Ctrl+C to copy the selection.
    - Select Edit | Paste as New Image.
    - You'll get a new window containing only the selection.
    - Save this and attach to post.

    Re: Spyware ???

Hello Hans. No wonder my attachments had to be cropped prior to posting, it will be seen from the original instructions I got from a lounger ** [see below ] that the "Ctrl + C"; was missing from the sequence of moves. **
#1 No cost outlay : MS Photo Editor....Make sure you have installed the Microsoft Photo Editor - it is part of the standard Office suite and should be found under Office Tools. If you do not have it installed: Add/Remove Programs > Microsoft Office >Add or Remove Features should let you do it. Make sure Photo Editor is running then:
To grab an entire screen, press PrntScrn. Switch to PE, then Edit > Paste as New Image. To grab just the active window, press Alt + PrntScrn, then Edit > Paste as New Image. Once you have the image in PE, you can trim the image to suit. I find the easiest way is to click on the Select button, draw the rectangle around the relevant part of the graphic, [**] and again Edit > Paste as New Image. This final image can be saved as a .gif or .jpg or .png. Smaller sized pics tend to be better saved as .gif's, saving as a .jpg allows you to set a 'quality factor' - usually 70% is suitable and keeps the file size down.
If I was an Ausie, I'd say "No worries mate"; but seeing I am a Brit I'll say "No sweat". As ever, thanks you for directing me past this small; hurdle. Dave
