    saving contact addresses, e-mails (xp & 2003)

Is there a way to save Outlook contact information and e-mails (both inbox and sent) with attachments in a word or excel format? The company wants to go to a new platform and I want these items saved for reference.

    thanks

Look at your options under File | Import and Export.

Unfortunately, as you know, Outlook uses a proprietary message format. It's difficult to imagine moving all the mail into an Office format without losing a lot in the translation.

One trick for transferring email messages among programs is to create an IMAP account (the server needs to support IMAP in addition to just POP) and copy the messages to the server. This will convert the format to an industry standard format that you later can download with another program. However, I've never tried it myself.

See <post:=624,017>post 624,017</post:> for a possible approach to exporting the emails to a generic format. (I have not used it myself, but it worked for Alan.)
