    Sound Driver (Home Premium)

I was advised that my Sound Blaster Live 5.1 D (Dell) card was not compatible with Vista, but I have found several references in various forums for a work around -- none of which work for a variety of reasons. Does anyone have experience with this?

You might try the Creative Labs forums. According to Live 5.1 downloads the product has reached end-of-service-life. You'll be hard pressed (as you as discovering) to find out useful information.

Yes, Creative no longer supports Live 5.1. I found several forums where they claimed they had found 3rd party drivers that worked, but none of them worked on my computer. I'm probably out of luck with this one -- but it still ticks me off!

That is unfortunate. If you did not run the Vista Hardware Assessment tool before you upgraded you should have. It is pretty thorough in checking a system for Vista compatibility. It is in the interest of the hardware vendors to have you buy new hardware with Vista. So, many decided to not support older (even though not that old) hardware on Vista.

Actually I did run it and I knew in advance that Vista didn't support the older sound card. However, being a cheap son of a gun I remained hopeful that some third party might come up with a driver that would work. So far , no luck!

Well, good luck. But don't hold your breath. It would definitely be easier to go to something like Pricewatch | Buy CREATIVE LABS Sound Cards at the lowest prices page 1 and find a card you like that has Vista drivers.

Thanks Joe, I suppose that's my next step. However, I'm still running XP in a dual boot mode, and the sound card works great there. So I'll wait a bit.
