    2nd Boot Sector (XP/SP2)

Don't know if this is the proper venue for this question, but after formating my hard drive and installing WinXP Home/SP2, I find that somehow I must have created a second boot sector. How do I get rid of it? When I turn on the computer, I get a choice of which to boot from. One of them gives me nothing, the other boots XP.
    Thanks...Jack

I suspect it is just a phantom entry in the boot.ini file.

    Easiest way:
Right-click My Computer > Properties, then navigate to Startup & Recovery, select the 'Default' you want to run (most likely the highlighted one), then Deselect 'Time to display list of operating systems'. This will force the OS installation you want to boot up straight away.
(I assume the default OS that boots up is the one you want?)

If you want to edit your boot.ini file to remove all trace of the false entry, click on Edit, and delete the enry you don't want.

If you are unsure of what to do, copy the contents of the start-up file and post it here.

    Hello Leif...
Thanks for the roadmap. Knowing just enough to be dangerous, I took the easier way suggested. With more confidence, I might eventually try editing the boot.ini file.
The fix took care of the problem for me
    Thanks, again...Jack
