    Windows Desktop Search problem

I just installed this (3.01) for a test run on XP, and must ask the proverbial "Am I missing something?" It seems to do all sorts of fancy things, but how do I search a particular filename? I have indexed everything (all drives + subdirs) for both content and properties. I have at least 10 files with "WMF" in their name, but the only thing this finds is files with "WMF" within the content or in the properties. I only hope that I am missing something, and that MS has not forgotten the most bleedin' obvious reason for having a file search application.

If you are using the Windows Explorer interface look down the left pane a bit for the "File name" box.

Thanks Joe. Now OK. Turns out that when I elected to index a drive, it excluded some folders from the operation. Once I fixed that up, the results tallied with the expected.

Glad you figured it out. And yes, the default settings for Desktop Search are not for those of us who tend to delve more deeply into our machines. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
