Re: Firefox update (2.0.0.10)

When I opened Firefox yesterday it informed me that there was an update. I installed it right away and verified that it was the correct version.

2.0.0.11 may be on its way

Mozilla may be planning a quick release of Firefox 2.0.0.11

There is a regression in 2.0.0.10 that can cause some images to not be displayed (technically, it is the Canvas.drawImage method that is not working). I have not yet seen any official news about 2.0.0.11 being planned but there are very good indications that it is planned, namely they have created a release candidate for 2.0.0.11 for testing and this is typically done in preparation for a release.

"Somebody" probably needs to create a better test suite. But considering the mostly volunteer nature of the project, and the speed at which changes are inserted (daily?), I'm not sure that will ever happen.

I believe they are looking for more feet, they have run out of ones to shoot themselves in.

Sadly that confirmation that you have the latest version gives little confidence. If you now reinstall to v2.0.0.9, it will also take you to the same description.

To confirm what version you have go to" Help > About Mozilla Firefox". Your version number is displayed under the word Firefox, and your useragent string which gives more details about the version you are using is displayed at the bottom of the dialog. It will look something like this:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.10) Gecko/20071115 Firefox/2.0.0.10

Re: Firefox update (2.0.0.10)

Tony,

That indeed confirms the version installed, but does not confirm that that is the latest version. Once the foot shooting has passed, perhaps it would be good to remove all the previous versions of the page that confirm you have the latest version, otherwise someone could obtain and install e.g. a copy of v 2.0.0.9, see the 'you have the latest version' screen, and believe they were up-to-date. Indeed, it would perhaps be even better if the previous confirmation screens were changed to indicate that it was NOT the latest version.

Mozilla plan to release 2.0.0.11 in a little under 8 hours, It is a "firedrill" release and just contains the 1 fix.
