Wondershare DemCreator

Looks to be another worthwhile title from the Give Away Of The Day site. A reminder though, that the tilte is FREE for one day only (11/28/2007). Here is a link to the Wondershare site. FYI, the software normally sells for US$69.95.

What's fun about the GAOTD site is that in the comments people always tell you about freeware alternatives (they sometimes can be hard to find amidst all the other noise).

I've installed three or four programs from that site. One was a complete disaster, and I think later they gave away a patched version. Two others I don't use. Several of them sound useful for work but are not licensed for office use. For example, how many people need a tool to create program installers for their home use? Unless you're writing viruses in your spare time...

I also find the GAOTD site interesting but what holds me back from installing the products is that you can only install the products on the day that they are advertised. My preferred choice is using open source, then freeware, after checking reviews of the products. For the example you mentioned tools to create a program installer, there are 3 open source programs that I know of, Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (NSIS), Inno Setup and Windows Installer XML (WiX)t (which was originally developed by Microsoft and was used for the creation of the setup files for Office 2007)

    Re: Wondershare DemCreator

I actually check the site each morning to see if the giveaway [looks] worthwhile. Bad software is not good at any price, even FREE. Today's title does nothing for me, but it seemed like something I've seen tossed around here in the Lounge... Thought it may interest some.

All in all, I think I have four programs that I've downloaded and kept. Tried many; kept few!

    1. The ones I kept -

PPT to Video Scout - PowerPoint Add-in that converts ppt files to popular video formats.

ScanToPDF - Allows me to scan any document to a quick pdf file.

ConceptDraw - Never used it; just looked too good to let it get away!

Flashspring Pro - Converts PPT to flash
It's funny to read some of the comments people leave on the GOTD forum. There are some "bitter" folks out there. And I too, have followed up on some of the very free alternatives that were offered. But I can't think of any that I kept except maybe a CD labeling program.
