    blocked attachments (XP) (XP)

    Hi,
Back when I had Outlook 2000, I installed the patch that stopped attachments with extensions like .exe & .mdb (I forget the name of the patch) as a test. I discovered later that I couldn't really undo it without uninstalling all of office. Now I have a completely new machine (win2000 & office xp) and I thought that annoying problem would be over- alas, it's not! Did outlook retain my old settings on the server, or is this an annoying element of office xp? Oh, and any work arounds would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Jennie

    Hi Mary,
Thanks so much. I used the detachxp utility and it was slick!
    Thanks again, Jennie

    There's a COM addin at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm>http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm</A>that
provides a Tools | Options property page for setting the value for the reg
    key.

    Or edit it yourself:
    HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice10.0OutlookSecurity
    Add New String of Level1Remove

    format for value: exe;url

This key is a String value and needs to contain a semi-colon delimited list of file extensions. If it is in the wrong format, then it is ignored as if it were not present. By setting this key, you can back down the security level for the specified extensions to Level 2 (save to disk).

Just a thought. Every time I install Outlook 2002, the first thing I do is come here and search for the special programme that gets rid of the attachment security. So, what I thought was, why not publish the link to both programmes in some conspicuous place? It may save numerous questions about the Attachment Security in Outlook 2002.

needless to say, before I go on the net, I have an uptodate virus scanner installed. I think such a programme should be the first programme anyone gets when they acquire a new or replacement computer....

the links are easy to find - use the search function at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.slipstick.com>http://www.slipstick.com</A> if they aren't on the front page in the "popular this week" box.

Does the add-in listed above by MaryJ work in Win98SE for Outlook 2000? If not, must I reinstall all of Office 2000 to clear out this problem?

the com addin is for outlook 2002 only but
See <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm>http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm</A> for ways of dealing with blocked attachments.
