    New Bug

I have just noticed a new bug in the forum software. If I edit one of my messages on the board, the tags in the edit box have < > around them instead of [ ]. If I don't replace all of the brackets, I lose the tags when I repost the message.

No, Eileen. I had the same thing happen to me today editing a post I had just created. I just never got around to posting the problem, and Legare beat me to the punch.

    Re: New Bug

Me too, I just had a similar experience on a fresh post.

Another thing I noticed recently was that there is no blank line inserted after the opening [ pre] tag, and I think there used to be.

    Re: New Bug

I never saw a line after the opening tag, only before, and that's still there.

    Re: New Bug

Charlotte, maybe it was before, but the net effect was that a blank line appeared between the normal text and the first line of the pre tag text (i.e. code). In my case that no longer happens, and I have to insert a CR after the tag .
    <pre><font color=red>this is pre tagged</font color=red>
    </pre>
the red text above was entered as follows :- (replacing sq brackets)

    (pre)
    (red)this is pre tagged(/red)
    (/pre)

Is that the way it should work ? A line was entered after the closing tag.

    Re: New Bug

No, it was a post that I had entered less than 5 minutes before and decided to add some additional information to. One other thing that I noticed was that the carriage return that was between the pre tag and the next line was also missing. What had initially been entered as:

    [ pre]
    line of text
    second line
    [ /pre]

looked like this in the edit box:

    < pre>line of text
    second line of text
    < /pre>

    Re: New Bug

Oh, I see what you mean. I think you're right, but I actually prefer it tighter, and I don't object to having to put in the occasional extra carriage return.<pre><font color=red>This follows an in-line pre tag without a preceding carriage return
but must be followed by a carriage return or the next line will run on</font color=red></pre> like this.

That is definitely new behavior, and what's really interesting is that it doesn't seem to care how many spaces I put between the closing [ /pre] tag and the following text, it still jams them together. There are actually six spaces between <font color=red>"on"</font color=red> and "like" above.

Now if we could just get Mummy to tighten up the spacing for
    <hr>[ quote]text[ /quote]<hr>

It's also interesting that only the [ pre] tags get changed from square brackets to angle brackets when you edit the post. The other tags stay just as they were entered.

    Re: New Bug

OK. Have I got this right? It's just the <pre> tags that we're dealing with here? All the others are OK?

I discovered that Stylesheets allow you to specify *inline* as part of the <pre> tag's behavior and I thought it might be more useful that way. I obviously screwed it somehow...

    Re: New Bug

As far as I can tell, it's just the [ pre] tags that are misbehaving. The [ quote] and color tags certainly work the way they always have. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

    Re: New Bug

Thanks for pointing me to the heart of the problem. I've put <pre> tags back the way they were until I've figured out if inlining is really feasible. I'll also have a look at tightening up <quote> while I'm in that area.

    Re: New Bug

Would a post made while the change was in effect still be broken? I just went back and looked at the post I gave you a link to, and it still has the problem. A new post in the same thread looks OK.

    Re: New Bug

Yes, just re-edit the one(s) that got screwed and it should be OK from now on.

    Re: New Bug

It was still causing problems this morning. Did you fix it after that?<pre>Just testing, Mummy</pre>

Yep, they stick now instead of winding up with angle brackets.
