    TrueType Font

I am seeking the source of a (free) TrueType font in which each letter is enclosed in a circle, similar to the letter 'c' in the copyright symbol. Any suggestions?

You've probably got them already! See http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U2460.pdf

Thanks for that. I seem to be doing something wrong. Typing in what I believe to be the code for a circled M and then hitting alt+x I just get a capital M without the circle. Where am I going wrong?

Do you have a font named Arial Unicode MS or MS Mincho? They come with MS Office, and they contain circled letters and digits.

    Re: TrueType Font

According to Microsoft Help file "If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, the universal font for Unicode is automatically installed." I am using Windows XP Home and have Office 2003 installed but there is no sign of Arial Unicode MS in Word 2003

Apparently it isn't installed, so follow the instructions for installing it as described for Windows 2000. See Install the universal font for Unicode.

Was just about to reply to you again, saying I had found how to install it through Conytrol Panel. Thank you for your help.

    Re: TrueType Font

Since PhilKiwi has got what he needed done, I hope folks won't mind if I clutter up this thread with a little redirection. This subject of unicode characters has come up a couple of other times lately here in The Lounge, so I hope no one will mind if I ask. I no longer have the beloved MS Office installed on my system, having switched to Open Office some time ago. For my modest needs, Open Office is doing a nice job for me and I'm quite satisfied.

With that in mind, is there a place one can download that all-encompassing unicode font, either from MS or elsewhere? The only way I've been able to get ANY unicode characters on screen is to find one like ► or ∑ in CHARMAP and copy/paste. I've never been able to figure out how to work that ALT-something trick with the numpad, especially if the unicode number includes an alpha character <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15>.

    Re: TrueType Font

Arial Unicode MS is not available outside of MS Office, at least not legally. The font is available as Arial Unicode from AscenderFonts, but it's not free.

But I don't see how having Arial Unicode MS would solve your problem - you'd still need CharMap to use it.

    Re: TrueType Font

Thanks Hans. Just showing my ignorance of such things, I know. I didn't know if having the font installed would make it any easier to access a unicode character. No more often than I need one, I suppose I'll just stick to the existing fonts I already have installed. Thanks again.

Don't know if it will help you or not Al, but I did a quick Google search, and found this. 100 Legal sources for "free as in beer" fonts.

I haven't done any other leg work on it.

Haven't looked at any details yet, but it looks like a good place to bookmark for further review. Thanks Chris!
