Save as ACCESSIBLE HTML (Excel 2002/2003)

Excel 97 would produce relatively clean HTML. However Excel 2002-2003 produce very messy HTML with lots of unwanted jun that does not comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. (The only other option seems to be the MHT format which is for IE only.)

Problems with SAVE AS HTML in XL2002 is that results are unreliable in non-MS browsers. Font size is in points which is not accessble. The XL97 converter use deprecated HTML tags such as FONT.

All I want is a simple HTML table which complies with html4 or xhtml 1.0 transitional.

    Help please!

The macros to generate HTML code by MVP David McRitchie may be of use, see Excel to HTML conversions

    Hi Grant

<img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15> You will be hard pushed to get XHTML transitional! As you have discovered, the amount of excessive tag soup that appears in MS Office created HTML makes this very difficult.

I am lucky enough to have a copy of Dreamweaver MX that does a reasonable job of clearing MS HTML and with a little work can get it to HTML 4
