    characters delayed on screen

I had no idea where to ask this question.

A friend says that when he keyboards data - it does not immediately show up on the screen - there is a time delay - usually a few seconds. This is the case when doing email, typing in search commands, etc. He is using a Dell laptop. What could be causing this.

    Thanks.

    Re: characters delayed on screen

    What operating system?

Delays are normally caused by something taking over in the background, such as Outlook downloading mail and announcing it, or a virus-scanner at work. It could also be a virus itself doing its stuff...

Right-click the Taskbar and select TaskManager. Select Processes, then click on CPU twice to sort the main process to the top. Does anything look out of place?

In addition to Leif's reply: if the problem is specific to typing in an e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook 2002 or 2003, see <post:=661,878>post 661,878</post:>
