Fill Color in Text Box (Office Pro 2003 )

I'm a new member here and am hoping someone can answer this...I purchased a new custom built laptop for technical writing work and it is loaded with Windows XP SP2 and Office 2003. In Word, for some reason when I bring up a text box and try to put a fill color in, the fill color does not show, even though the text box format window shows the color chosen and the document will print out with the correct color. For all other aspects of use with this laptop, all colors are showing normally. I have switched printer connections on the network and page setups with no change. I have Woody's 2003 Office disk loaded. Is there a switch somewhere in the software that I need to toggle or ?? This is maddening when trying to build graphics with text boxes, and I have never had this happen on other computers I have used. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

It might be a problem with your video card. Here are two things you can try:

    1) Look for an updated driver for your video card.

    2) Decrease hardware acceleration:
    - Open the Display Properties control panel (either by right-clicking an empty part of the desktop and selecting Properties from the popup menu, or through Start | Control Panel)
    - Activate the Settings tab,
    - Click Advanced.
    - Activate the Troubleshoot tab.
    - Drag the Hardware acceleration slider a notch or two to the left.
    - OK your way out.
    - If that doesn't help, repeat.
    - If it doesn't help at all, you can restore the original setting.

Thank you Hans for the quick response....I tried both your suggestions with no luck...there does not appear to be any update drivers available, and throttling back the hardware acceleration had no effect....I did find a workaround, but have not solved the problem. I am now going into Powerpoint 2003 and when I open a new document there there is a Color/Grayscale Icon on the Standard Toolbar, which allows one to choose between Color, Grayscale, Pure Black & White, and High Contrast) It comes up on a new presentation in High Contrast and this also allows no color fill in the Text Boxes, just like the problem I am having in Word 2003. However, if I change this to Color I am in business in Powerpoint. If I try to copy the text boxes I build in Powerpoint individually into word the color is not there, just as before. But if I Group all the color filled text boxes in Powerpoint and then copy that object into Word, I get the color, although in one object rather than several! It is almost as if there is a similar switch somewhere in Word like the icon in PowerPoint, but I sure can't find it. I tried the Picture High Contrast, but that is shaded out for text boxes.
So if anyone has any additional thoughts on this, I'd appreciate it, but I am able to get the work done at the moment with the workaround. Thanks again....

Hmm, strange. I don't know of any setting in Word that would restrict it to B&W or grayscale...
